# IMPOWER

## Content

This function returns a complex number raised to a power.

## Syntax

`IMPOWER(complexnum, powernum)`

## Arguments

This function has these arguments:

| Argument | Description |
| -------- | ----------- |
| *complexnum* | Complex number to raise to a power |
| *powernum* | Power to which to raise the complex number |

The power (*powernum* argument) can be integer, negative, or fractional.

## Remarks

An error is returned if *complexnum* is not in the form "x+yi" or "x+yj" or if *powernum* is non-numeric. For more information, refer to [Complex Numbers](/spreadjs/docs/v17/formulareference/formulaoverview/functionsformula/complexnumbers).

## Data Types

Accepts number and string data. Returns string data.

## Examples

`IMPOWER("2+5j",4)`
